What Documents Does an EB-3 Case Need? A Complete Checklist for 2026

Preparing your documents is one of the most important steps in the EB-3 immigration program. Missing papers, inconsistent information or repeated requests for additional evidence can prolong processing and affect the whole family’s immigration plan.

Global Immigration Group helps you understand what an EB-3 case includes and which documents the principal applicant and family members need, and shares key points for limiting errors as you complete your US immigration file.

What does an EB-3 case include?

An EB-3 case may differ depending on the position, the worker group and each family’s circumstances. In general, however, the applicant will need to prepare personal documents, education and work experience records, files for accompanying family members and documents for the immigrant visa process.

A quick EB-3 document summary

  • Valid passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Marriage certificate (if any)
  • Relevant degrees and certificates (if requested)
  • Work experience letters (if any)
  • Police certificate
  • Files for an accompanying spouse and children
  • Immigration medical examination records
  • Photos meeting the requirements of the US immigration authorities

Although not every EB-3 case requires a college degree or work experience letters, preparing all documents from the start helps limit requests for additional evidence and can help shorten processing.

Civil documents for the principal EB-3 applicant

The principal EB-3 applicant needs to prepare all civil documents for processing the case and applying for the US immigrant visa. Depending on the stage, the US immigration authorities or consular post may request additional documents.

  1. Valid passport: The passport should be valid for at least 6 months at the time of entry to the United States.
  2. Birth certificate: The original or a certified extract issued by the competent authority.
  3. Citizen identity card or national ID card: May be used to verify personal information when necessary.
  4. Photos: Photos must meet US immigrant visa requirements at the time of filing or interview.
  5. Documents showing changes to personal information (if any): Including name change decisions, civil status correction certificates or other legal documents showing changes to name, date of birth or marital status.
  6. Police certificate: Usually required during immigration processing and the visa interview.

Check names, dates of birth and personal information on all documents carefully to make sure they are consistent. Discrepancies may lead to requests for additional documents or longer processing.

Education and work experience records for EB-3

Depending on the EB-3 group and the requirements of the position, the applicant may need documents showing education, occupational skills or work experience.

  1. High school, college or university diplomas (if any).
  2. Transcripts or school records (if requested).
  3. Occupational certificates or professional training certificates related to the position.
  4. Work experience letters: Stating the job title, period of employment and a description of duties performed.
  5. Past employment contracts or hiring decisions (if any).
  6. Other documents showing professional skills as required by the sponsoring business.

For many Other Workers positions, a college degree or long-term work experience may not be mandatory. Even so, workers should still prepare complete education and work experience records to make the review easier.

EB-3 documents for accompanying dependents

EB-3 participants can include a spouse and unmarried children under 21 in the immigration case. Each accompanying family member also needs to prepare civil documents as required by the US immigration authorities and consular post.

Documents for a spouse

  1. Valid passport
  2. Birth certificate
  3. Marriage certificate
  4. Police certificate (if in the age group required to obtain one)
  5. Photos meeting US immigrant visa standards
  6. Documents showing the end of any previous marriage (if any), such as a divorce decree or the death certificate of a former spouse

Documents for accompanying children

  1. Valid passport
  2. Birth certificate
  3. Photos meeting US immigrant visa standards
  4. Legal adoption papers (if any)
  5. Written consent from a parent who is not accompanying (if requested in specific cases)

Prepare originals and copies of all dependents’ civil documents to make checking easier at the visa interview.

Documents for the US immigrant visa interview

After the case has moved to the National Visa Center (NVC) and the interview is scheduled, the applicant and accompanying family members need to prepare all documents to bring on the day of the interview at the US Embassy or Consulate.

These documents usually include:

  1. Interview letter from the NVC
  2. DS-260 confirmation page
  3. Valid passport
  4. Immigration medical results in a sealed envelope (if issued on paper)
  5. Photos meeting US immigrant visa requirements
  6. Originals of the civil documents previously uploaded to the NVC system
  7. Additional documents requested by the consular post (if any)

Workers should check the list of documents in the interview letter carefully, as the consular post may request additional documents depending on the case.

Make an EB-3 document checklist and keep all papers in PDF form from the start. This makes it easy to track your progress and supply documents quickly when requested.
